Here is your big chance. You finally got that job interview. Before you start celebrating, you need to prepare. Even before you turn in your application, you should begin preparing for possible interview questions. There are many books and expert opinions that can help you in this department. However, even before spending money on books or searching through webpage after webpage of so-called expert recommendations, here are a few simple interview tips.
Re-read the job description and know what resume version you sent them. You don’t want your future employer to stump you with a simple question about the job for which you applied. Read up on the job description and be prepared to answer question on why you applied for this job and why, exactly you believe you qualify.
On the same note, research the company, their product or service and be prepared discuss it intelligently.
Research the average salary for the position for which you are interviewing. The employer may ask how much you expect to make this job. It is always best to start with an hourly or salary pay range rather then provide a single number. Say something like high thirties to low forties annually (speaking in thousands of dollars), or about mid ten to twelve dollars an hour.
If you have no experience, be prepared to talk about any training that will relate to the job for which you are interviewing.
Have ready answers to common interview questions such as “What is your weakest attribute,” and “Where do you expect to be in five years?”
Finally, dress appropriately and arrive at your meeting place for your interview early so that you can get your thoughts and papers in order. You do not want to appear frazzled or winded when the interview begins.
