Job Interview Tips – Prepare Questions in Advance

Your career objective is always to nail the interview, and follow up. Do not try to wing your way through the interview. Your potential employer will know that you are not prepared. Instead, take your time and gather everything you need for the interview. Do some research on the company and on the position to which you are applying. Be prepared to answer challenging interview questions with confidence, and prepare several job position questions for the interviewer. When asked, “do you have any questions”, quietly saying No is not the best response. Show your potential employer you can engage them in a conversation. Ask them a question and listen to their response.

Arrive at the interview early so that you can be cool and calm. Be sure to follow up after the interview so that your potential employer can remember who you are and why your resume skills and qualifications are the best candidate for the job.

Apply for jobs at places that are hiring. Maybe your perfect job is not hiring at the moment. That doesn’t mean that you have to sit on your hands and wait for something to open up in that company. There is no way of knowing for sure when that company will be open for hiring again. You can not afford to sit around and wait. It is better to look for jobs that are hiring. Something is better than nothing.

Do not disappear. Perhaps a potential employer is interested in hiring you but getting back to you may not occur for several weeks. It can take time to check references and to look into your professional background. They might even Google you to see what comes up. If you are on any social networking websites, it is recommended your set your profiles to private. However, if you use any professional social media networking groups make sure your profile is up to date, especially if you list any websites or internet addresses in your resume header. Incomplete or misleading information could cause a potential employer to question your qualifications or even pass you by and go on to the next candidate. You don’t have to have all of your information online, but be sure employers can find out things about you that are important to them if you choose to use online public profiles.

“ Motivated “ in your resume? Don’t say!

In your resume, if you write that you are “ motivated “, you are not alone.

In his profile, every jobseeker writes that he is motivated.

Since LinkedIn has profiles of over 85 million members, it was able to compile the following list of the most used / overused / abused words:

     Motivated
     Extensive experience
     Innovative
     Proven track record
     Dynamic
     Team player
     Proactive
     Entrepreneurial
     Skill set
     Problem solver

Spokesman of LinkedIn offers following advice to jobseekers ( jobless or even currently employed ) :

“ These phrases can appear empty to potential employer and may do more harm than good when you include them in your profile or resume. If you’re using any of these ten terms, wipe them out “.

Recruiters are waiting for a software which will automatically reject any resume that contains more than 2 of these words !

    With regards
